WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM PLACES NINTH AT RADFORD TOURNEY

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team placed ninth in the 12-team Lady Highlander Invitational hosted by Radford University earlier this week and now has three weeks to prepare for its next action, an appearance in the Austin Peay State University Team Intercollegiate in Clarksville, TN, Oct. 11-12.

EKU shot a two-round total of 643, just six strokes out of seventh place where the team was located after the first round of the tournament. Although dropping a couple of places in the final round as a team, second-year Colonel head coach Joni Stephens was pleased with her team's effort.

"We actually shot and played better in this tournament, although our finish doesn't show that. We started some young players in this tournament and they responded very well," said Stephens. "This is a tougher tournament with a much better field than the first one we played in this year."

Senior Jackie Biro, who fired a first-round 72, topped EKU players with her score of 155, which tied her for 19th place. Sophomore Krista Dillman, in her first action as a Colonel golfer, went 81-78 for a 159, good enough to tie her for 30th place.

Other Eastern players and their scores were freshman Leslie Fossitt, 161; sophomore Kelli Wilson, 169; and junior Samantha Moses, 171.
