WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM CLOSES FALL SEASON WITH SEVENTH PLACE FINISH
RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Joni Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team wrapped up its 1998 fall season last weekend with a seventh place finish among 16 teams at the James Madison University Invitational in Staunton, VA.
EKU shot a two-day total of 643 as Yale took the tourney title with a score of 622.
"It was a good course, but the greens were treacherous. They were very fast with a lot of slope," said Stephens.
Sophomore Colleen Yaeger of Naperville, IL, led Eastern with her 17th place finish by shooting 159. Tied for 20th were EKU juniors Krissie Kirby of Irvine and Jaclyn Biro of Kalamazaoo, MI, who came in at 160 each.
"We had a really good season. In the beginning, we hoped to develop a stronger sense of team spirit and, by the end of the year, we had accomplished that," said Stephens.
The Eastern women's golf team opens its 1999 spring season with a trip
to Fripp Island, SC, for the Fripp Island Invitational, Mar. 5-7.
