RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Joni Stephens' Eastern Kentucky University women's golf team wrapped up its 1998 fall season last weekend with a seventh place finish among 16 teams at the James Madison University Invitational in Staunton, VA.

EKU shot a two-day total of 643 as Yale took the tourney title with a score of 622.

"It was a good course, but the greens were treacherous. They were very fast with a lot of slope," said Stephens.

Sophomore Colleen Yaeger of Naperville, IL, led Eastern with her 17^th place finish by shooting 159. Tied for 20^th were EKU juniors Krissie Kirby of Irvine and Jaclyn Biro of Kalamazaoo, MI, who came in at 160 each.

"We had a really good season. In the beginning, we hoped to develop a stronger sense of team spirit and, by the end of the year, we had accomplished that," said Stephens.

The Eastern women's golf team opens its 1999 spring season with a trip to Fripp Island, SC, for the Fripp Island Invitational, Mar. 5-7.
